Welcome to our new Star in Education Foundation literacy program.

With the support of community partners, the foundation is proud to help enrich the classroom experience by providing the Ventura County Star eEdition to your classroom and providing educational resources at no cost. The Ventura County Star e-Edition is delivered to you electronically daily. The eEdition is a full replica version of our print edition.

The program is designed for you and your students to be able to access the E-Edition 7-days a week. Our minimum order is 20 licenses (copies). All you need to do is register your class information and you will be sent one password to access you classroom set.

How does the foundation work?

The Star in Education Foundation supports instruction by providing at no cost the eEdition, a variety of free curriculum guides, serial stories and lesson plans to help integrate the newspaper into the classroom.

What is the benefit of using the eEdition newspaper in the classroom?

Teaching with the newspaper is an excellent tool for you to assess your students’ competencies in standards. Some of the major standards that can be addressed using the Ventura County Star eEdition include: reading comprehension, vocabulary development, sentence structure, grammar, literacy response and analysis, communication, number sense, measurement and geometry, mathematical reasoning, chronological thinking, historical interpretation, continuity and change, and earth sciences.

What is the maximum or minimum number of newspapers I can order?

There is no maximum order; the minimum order is 20 per day.

How many days of the week can I order the newspaper for?

The system defaults and is designed for you and your students to be able to access the e-Edition 7 days a week. If you would like another frequency please email SIE@venturacountystar.com with the days of e-Edition delivery you would like. Your affidavit will only reflect the days of delivery requested.

What grade levels can I order newspapers for?

All grades are eligible. From K-12, Colleges, Universities and any qualified adult programs.

Do you have curriculum that is available for use?

Yes! We have various lesson plans and curriculums available free of charge.

What happens to our access during school breaks?

We follow the Ventura County Office of Education District’s calendar for school breaks and holidays.

To order the Ventura County Star eEdition, please...

Please remember you will receive a quarterly affidavit reminder, recapping how many newspapers your classroom received for the entire quarter. It is mandatory for you to confirm the order by visiting the Affidavit Confirmation link. If the affidavit form is not filled out by the due date access will be shut off.

Reasons to order the eEdition:

  1. It is convenient, environmentally friendly, and you’ll have less paper to recycle.
  2. A customized Star in Education portal will give you and your students direct access to curriculum and extra material only available with the eEdition.
  3. The eEdition is archived up to 90 days, which will allow you and your students to access back issues.
  4. You or your students can choose your favorite section with a single click on the table of contents; view it in full height or full width, and scroll through pages with ease by setting your preferences.
  5. You or your students can search by topic, person, event or keyword to identify the information sought in seconds. Past issues are also searchable by date range or "all available issues."
